Region 7 consists of four counties: Fayette County, where George Washington fought the French at Ft. Necessity and with General Braddock's British forces established an important supply route now known as the National Highway; Greene County, named after the Revolutionary War General Nathanael Greene, was the home of 6 Indian Nations while its early industries were gas wells, coal mining and wool production; Washington County, is known as the home of the Whiskey Rebellion led by David Bradford and the home of the McGuffey Reader author; and Westmoreland County was the first county of the colony of Pennsylvania west of the Allegheny Mountains and the site of the fierce battle of Bushy Run.
