Blair County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees

The Blair County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees is an outgrowth of an organization known as the Altoona Retired Teachers Association, which was founded on December 6, 1939. It was expanded on October 20, 1965, to include Blair County, and a charter was issued in the name of “The Retired Teachers Association of Blair County, Pennsylvania.” On November 19, 1975, another revision changed the name to “The Retired Public School Employees Association of Blair County, Pennsylvania.” On May 17, 1990, another revision changed the name to the Blair County Association of School Retirees. In May 1998, the present name was adopted to reflect a relationship with the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees (PASR). Pennsylvania is divided into 12 regions. Region 13 comprises all chapters outside Pennsylvania. The Blair County Chapter is one of seven chapters in Region V.
Purpose
The objectives of the Chapter shall be:

To develop a cooperative and unified program of social and educational activities among and for retired school employees.

To provide opportunities for the presentation and exchange of opinions on subjects of interest to retired public school employees.

To provide programs assisting retired school employees with their welfare and personal needs

To inform its members and provide support of legislative programs for the improvements of public education and the economic status of retired school employees.

To support the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees, Pennsylvania State Education Association-Retired, and the National Retired Teachers Association Division of AARP in matters pertaining to the interest, welfare and education of retired school employees and a the advancement of education in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Meetings
Two general membership luncheon meetings are held each year in May and October in order to conduct business. In addition, monthly informal luncheon meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month at 11:30 a.m. unless it falls on a holiday. Special meetings are scheduled upon written request of ten (10) members.
