Lauretta Woodson Recipient

Dr. Lauretta Woodson was born and raised in Chester, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Chester High School. She attended West Chester Teacher’s College where she acquired a degree in Secondary Education in English. She received her master’s from Columbia and doctorate from Temple University. She began teaching at the Eddystone School District in the 1950s as an English teacher. She then became an instructor at Temple University and at this time received her doctorate. She then worked as an assistant professor at Temple University for more than 25 years. She retired around 1984.

 

She faithfully served the retired school employees in the Delaware Chapter and Region 1 for many years in numerous capacities. Upon her passing, she bequeathed a sum of money to PASR to be used for the support of public education.

 

The purpose of the Lauretta Woodson Recognition Program is to honor one educator and one support professional for doing an outstanding job within a district or school. Honorees are presented with a framed certificate from the State organization, a medal, and a pin from the Blair County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees.

The 2025 Loretta Woodson Award was given to Paigette Burkey and Lynn Ruggles.
2024 John J. Dillon Award

The Award is in honor of John Dillon, Past President of PASR, to recognize the outstanding service provided to the Association by individual volunteers at the local, regional, and/or State level. A listing of each year’s honorees are displayed in the “John J. Dillon Service Hall of Fame” at the PASR Headquarters in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania.

The 2024 John Dillon Award was presented to Terrence L Koch by PASR pst State President, William Neugebauer.

The PASR Volunteer Award was presented to Jill Anthony. Jill has donated many hours this past year to special projects at her church, the American Rescue Mission, Backpacks Program, and various other community activities.

Educational Support Grants

The Educational Support Grants will be TWO $500 grants.  There have been no applications for the grants received. 

 

Below is the application information for the Educational Support Grant.  Please inform any interested individuals about the grant.  Applications should be sent to Betsy Happeny by January 31, 2026.
